Grace Church, originally Grace Chapel, was chartered with Foursquare Church in 1987 after Richard and Becki Casteel moved from Arizona with a group of friends to start a new church in the Springfield area. The goal was simple: to birth a new congregation that would be a non-religious expression of Jesus.
Initially, the ministry of Grace Chapel began in a storefront on South Stewart Street. The church moved to its current location in 1992 and has been called Grace Church since 2016.
After the Casteel's, Grace Chapel was pastored by John and Becky Rusk and Richard and Jeanie Tow from 1987 until 2006. Following the Rusk’s and Tow’s, Jay and Heather Bean pastored Grace from 2006 until their transition to another ministry assignment in September 2019. Arriving in Spring 2020, Tim and Susan May are the current leaders of Grace Church.
In the more than three decades since Grace was founded, God has done some amazing things through this congregation! With a heart for both the community and the “ends of the earth,” Grace Church has invested in ministries near and far, planted churches, and equipped pastors, missionaries, leaders and chaplains — sending them out to fulfill their callings in our city and around the world.
The Grace Church family is passionate about missions, discipling emerging generations, inter-generational ministry, and the Spirit’s work in and through us! We have a heart for authenticity and enjoy building relationships and "doing life" with one another.
