Be Rich Toward God

Jay & Heather Bean

Lead Pastor

In this series, we learn how to use our time and resources to advance the Kingdom of God and make a difference. Pastor Jay continues the Be Rich series by teaching us to value stewardship over ownership.

BE RICH

Be Rich Toward God (Part 4)

1 Timothy 6:17-19 – Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

God has blessed me with more than I need so I can make an eternal difference in the life of others.

What is my giving strategy?

I will intentionally share my my resources

  • Matthew 6:19-20 – Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
  • Luke 12:16-21 – And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Because this life is preparation for the next, I will value…

Stewardship over ownership.

People over possessions.

The eternal over the temporal.

  • Philippians 3:18-20 – Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.

You will either love money and use people or you will love people and use money.

Scripture Reference

1 Timothy
